The Maryborough Football Club Home Page

Welcome to "Claws of Victory", the home page of the Maryborough Football Club. This page is designed for those who follow, interested or simply curious about the Mighty Magpies.
The club has just recently won it's first Bendigo Football League premiership (1998) under the coach of Neville Massina and have dominated again this year, being one of the top competitive sides in the competition. Now in the Bendigo League, Maryborough had played most of it's games with the Ballarat League until 1992. They have won premierships in 1924,'25, '27, '31, '60, '65, '68, '72, '74 and '98. Let's hope they can make it back to back this year.

CHAMP GETS CLOSE TO RECORD
Maryborough strong backman, Geoff MacIlwain closes in on Ken Yates' record of 211 senior games for the Magpies, as long as he continues next season. "Nummy", who turns 36 in October, started his career with Beverley Hills Juniors, following on to Doncaster from 1981-85 where he won a Best & Fairest and played in a premiership side. He was picked up by the Richmond Football Club in 1986 where he played 2 senior games and 16 reserves before going to St.Kilda in 1987 where he managed 19 reserves games. He then moved to Maryborough in 1988 and won the Best & Fairest in his first year, being one of the six he has won at the club. He has won the Henderson Medal twice, in 1990-91 and was coach in 1995-96. A past Bendigo and Ballarat representative player, MacIlwain was a key player in Maryborough's premiership side in 1998. Well done on such a great career of football.
